One of the best parts of camping is relaxing around the campfire at the end of the night. It’s the perfect time to connect with each other after a day in nature and cap your night off with something sweet. There are easy camping desserts you can make at home ahead of time, or cook over the fire for an authentic camping experience. While s’mores are a camping classic, we’ve rounded up tons of other fun desserts to share around the campfire. From cinnamon nut pull aparts to no bake rocky road, these are delicious camping desserts your whole family will love!
4 Tips for Creating Easy Camping Desserts
1. Keep It Simple
The simpler the better when it comes to camping desserts. The last thing you want to do is bring loads of ingredients to make an elaborate recipe. You’ll already have a lot to pack, both food and otherwise, so choose dessert recipes that use minimal ingredients, and also think about recipes that use the same ingredients so your packing list is as short as possible.
2. Bring Cooking Utensils
Make sure you’re stocked with the right cooking utensils to make camping desserts, including a spatula, ice cream scooper, whisk and wooden spoon. A skillet is a campfire must to make recipes like tarts and pies, and a dutch oven is used for cobbler and cinnamon rolls, two campfire favourites. Don’t forget the aluminium foil as this multi-purpose item makes it easy to cook things directly in the coals.
3. Use Sticks To Your Advantage
Sticks aren’t just for roasting hot dogs and marshmallows, you can also use them to roast sweet bread or cinnamon bun dough over an open flame. Work the dough until it’s a long, thin strip, swirl around the stick and roast until it’s golden brown, rotating occasionally so it cooks evenly. Soak your stick in water before roasting to keep it from catching fire. This will also help steam the bread from the inside out, creating a fluffy, delicious treat.
4. Don’t Cook Directly Over the Flames
If you cook directly over the flames, your desserts are going to burn. The intense heat will char your desserts and cook them unevenly. This will ruin them, making them very unappetizing. Wait until your coals are white hot and use a cooking surface or stand to keep your cookware above the most intense heat.
