13 DIY Eyebrow Lamination Tips & Products for Fluffy Brows | Eyebrow laminating has been a hot topic on Instagram and TikTok, and for good reason -- it's a simple way to enhance or lift your brows for natural, thick brows without investing in expensive procedures like micro-blading. But how is it done, and can you do it at home? In this post, we have everything you need to know, including tips, products, and tutorials for the perfect DIY brow lamination.

Eyebrow lamination, also called a brow sculpt or brow lift, is the best way to get those feathery, model-like brows. Similar to micro blading (without the needles) the technique involves lifting the brows with a serum to make them look fuller and more sculpted. Brow lamination can be totally life changing for those who have sparse or over-plucked brows, but it doesn’t come cheap. Getting brow lamination at a salon costs around $85 and even more with a tint. Fortunately, there are DIY brow lamination kits you can do yourself at home. They’re easy, affordable, and totally worth it. Here are 13 DIY eyebrow lamination tips and products for your best brows ever!

What Is Eyebrow Lamination?

Eyebrow lamination is essentially a perm for your eyebrows, except it straightens the hair instead of curling it. It’s often referred to as an instant brow lift as it can extend your brows by up to a third. Brow lamination semi-permanently sets the eyebrow hairs in a vertical direction, making them appear brushed up. It’s very similar to the look of soap brows, but they last longer (typically up to six weeks). The process starts with softening the hair follicle, then reshaping it into a more refined, lifted, feathery shape. When done correctly, you’ll end up with brows that are fuller and more “awake”.

Brown lamination is perfect for those who have over plucked, have gaps in their brows, or have hairs that grow in unruly directions. Your hairs are coaxed into place for a slicked up, shiny look, which is likely why it’s called lamination. It essentially gives you perfectly groomed brows without any effort, and while you can get a lamination at the salon, you can also do it yourself at home for a fraction of the cost.

10 DIY Eyebrow Lamination Tips & Products

  1. Buy a kit: There are numerous brow lamination kits on the market. They’re all very similar and typically come with these essentials: brow glue, perming solution, fixation solution, nutrition solution, cleanser solution, and spoolie brushes.
  2. Prep your skin: Remove all makeup, skincare, and oil from your brows. It’s also important to do a patch test 24 hours before you use any type of brow lamination kit to make sure you don’t have a reaction. If you have acne or skin sensitivities, consider checking with your derm first.
  3. Shape your brows: Your kit should come with brow glue, which you can use to shape your brows into the position you want them to set in. Use a spoolie brush to create the shape- your hairs should be flat against your skin.
  4. Start the perm: Once the glue starts to dry and has a tacky feel, apply the perming solution in your kit with a brow brush. This breaks down the protein chains in your hairs and makes them moldable.
  5. Set the perm: Check the instructions in your kit to see how long to leave the perming solution on for. Once they’re coated, lay plastic wrap over them to help them keep their shape. Once time is up, wipe off the solution with dry cotton pads.
  6. Neutralize: It’s important to neutralize your brows since the lamination solution raises the pH of your hair. Apply the neutralizer with a spoolie brush and leave on for the same amount of time you left the perm solution on for.
  7. Nourish: Finish with a nourishing serum. If your kit doesn’t come with one, use a brow serum or castor oil.
  8. Let them set: Don’t get your brows wet for 24 hours after you do your brow lamination to give them time to set.
  9. Primp: If you need to do any shaping to your eyebrows post-lamination, wait the 24 hours and then go in with your scissors, tweezers or whatever other tool you want to use.
  10. Aftercare: Continue using a serum nightly to keep your brows full and conditioned. An eyebrow growth cycle is six weeks, so don’t use the kit again until after this time to allow them to go through a full cycle.
