What is Galentine’s Day?
Galentine’s Day is all about showing love to your best girlfriends. It occurs on February 13th, the day before Valentine’s Day, and is celebrated by those who are both single or taken. It was first introduced in the TV show Parks and Recreation, where the fictional character Leslie Knope gathers a group of her closest gal pals for a brunch of waffles and love, in an episode appropriately named “Galentine’s Day”.
As she puts it, Galentine’s Day is “only the best day of the year. Every February 13, my lady friends and I leave our husbands and our boyfriends at home, and we just come and kick it, breakfast-style. Ladies celebrating ladies.” Since then, the unofficial holiday has become widely popular, to the point where it is recognized and marketed by companies and celebrated by women of every age group.
