Prior to that crazy October afternoon when my husband and I decided we were (finally!) ready to start a family, I used to enjoy nothing more than a late night of dinner, drinks, laughter, dancing, and more drinks with the girls.
There was just something so magical about it, you know?
Getting dressed up in my shortest, sluttiest clothes.
Ordering round after round of jagger bombs.
Sharing fattening desserts.
Discussing things I’d never have the courage to share with anyone else, like Brazilian waxes and the time I accidentally showed my father-in-law my birthday suit.
I’m not sure I’ll ever get over that last one…
It was always so much fun, and worth every single dry heave into the toilet the following morning.
Sadly, it’s been over 5 years since I’ve enjoyed a Girls’ Night Out, but while I’m desperate to remember what it feels like to have a social life that doesn’t involve discussions about picky eaters, toilet training, and my inability to get a toothbrush into my daughter’s mouth, the idea of staying up past 10 pm and drinking more than 2 glasses of wine these days absolutely terrifies me.
How would I cope with motherhood at 7 am with a bottle of jagger still floating around in my body?
So I did some searching on the internet and I came up with 10 fantastic Girls’ Night Out ideas for tired moms like me.
1. Sign up for pole dancing lessons
To be perfectly honest with you, I’m still a little angry my BFF didn’t arrange pole dancing lessons for my bachelorette party. It just looks like it would’ve been so much more fun than dressing me up like a hooker and pouring vodka down my throat all night, and I hear it’s a fabulous workout!
2. Go and see a psychic
Every time my daughter and I drive to the grocery store, we pass a little house that has a neon green “PSYCHIC” sign in one of its windows, and I’ve always thought it would be fun to check it out with the girls. I’d probably need to have a glass of wine first though – you just never know what they’re going to tell you, you know?
3. Take a cooking class
I was never able to convince my husband to take a cooking class with me while we were dating (which he probably regrets now that he knows just how bad of a cook I really am), but I always thought it would be a fun thing to try with the girls. There are heaps of places that offer cooking classes, and if you have enough friends to join in on the fun (spoiler alert: I don’t), you could probably rent the place out and make a night out of it!
4. Host a fondue night
Just another excuse to get out the good ‘ole Cuisinart Fondue Maker, right?!
5. Do something Pinterest-worthy
I’ve seen a lot of different variations of this on Google, but the gist is the same – get a bunch of your girlfriends together and try some of the things you’ve pinned on Pinterest. The possibilities really are endless with this one, but can I recommend trying these drunken gummy bears??!
6. Bring the spa to you!
When we were celebrating my college roommate’s bachelorette party, she wanted something low-key, so we convinced her aunt to let us use her house for the night, bought a bunch of food and booze, lit a fire in the pit in the backyard, cranked some tunes, and hired a couple of beauticians to spend the evening with us so we could each get a professional mani or pedi done. It was a really fun and relaxing evening, but if I were to do it all again with an endless supply of money, I would hire someone to give facials and massages as well!
7. Go bowling
It’s been ages since I’ve gone bowling, and I hear some places offer glow-in-the-dark bowling these days, which sounds like a scream…especially since most bowling alleys serve booze!
8. Invite the kids and make it a sleepover!
If your friends’ kids’ are the same age as your own, why not have a huge sleepover? You can set the kids up with sleeping bags, movies, and popcorn in the basement, and spend your evening gossiping while sucking back margaritas and cookie dough and giving each other mani/pedis!
9. Two words: retail therapy
What better way to bond with your closest girlfriends than by trying on some Jimmy Choos, gazing at a few Kate Spades, and squeezing yourself into impractical garments from Chanel you know you’ll never be able to afford??!
10. Throw an adult-themed party
You know those Tupperware parties your mom hosted when you were a kid? Well, you can now host a similar party for your friends, but instead of getting them to buy plastic food storage containers, you’d be enticing them with adult toys, if you catch my drift. I’ve never been to one of these parties myself (I swear!), but I’ve heard they are A LOT of fun. And if you’re the one hosting the party, you can make a few extra bucks if your friends drink enough to buy some toys. And just think of the gossip you’d have to share with your husband the next day!
